The Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (left) and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (right) would look the same if it werenāt for their enclosures. First things first, the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO are open-back headphones, while the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO are closed-back. For the uninitiated, that basically means the DT 990 PRO allows air and sound to pass
I use DT 990 (also 250 Ohm) and I can tell you if you are in need of more volume, go for lower Ohm headphones. Or get a small headphone amp. Not saying DT's won't do you good. I run mine thru 18i20. Not the same interface but mine specs that usage up to 250 is fine. Prior 990 I was using a few AKGs with lower impedance. They were 'louder'.
The Studio Legends. For decades now, professional users all around the world have placed their trust in our classic range: DT 770/880/990 PRO. These benchmark-setting studio headphones, available in three different models, boast extremely detailed resolution and very transparent sound. The DT 990 PRO headphones is the rangeās open-back model offering impressive spaciousness.
Finally, I don't find the mid on the 990 recessed. To my ears the 880s a bit bass shy, and adding the bass makes the mids less prominent. However, the padding can easily be replaced.
